Mexican trio Karen Y Los Remedios delivers a captivating mystical album titled Bestaria on the prestigious ZZK Records label. This release blends traditional Latin American roots with modern electronics, creating a sonic space where forgotten myths, goddesses, and the darker sides of the human soul come to life.

Musical Shamanism
“Bestaria” is not just a standard collection of songs, but a well-crafted musical ritual. The band masterfully weaves slow, hypnotic cumbia rebajada with elements of trip hop and dreamy pop. As lead singer Ana Karen often emphasizes in interviews, their music is not about mindless dancing, but about finding an authentic connection between deep-seated roots and contemporary urban melancholy. The result is an immersive soundscape where the past meets an innovative production approach.
“Behind Karen’s pulsating, spectral voice lies vulnerability, contemplation, and deep longing.” — ZZK Records.
From Ritualistic Singles to the Dark Corners of Satanás
The album’s overall structure is built around twelve chapters, each representing a different mythological figure. Prior to the release, listeners caught a glimpse of this universe through spellbinding singles like “Creación del Universo” and the magical “Ninfa”, which served as portals into the world of “Bestaria”.
“We need music that nourishes the spirit, without forgetting that we all have a rawer, rougher side.” — Ana Karen
The record seamlessly transitions from the healing, cleansing atmosphere of “Curandera” to the mythological depth of “Mayahuel”, all the way to a surprising and darker finale with a cover of “Satanás” (originally by Tropa Vallenata). This diversity demonstrates that the band is not afraid to experiment and push beyond genre boundaries. Since we consider this album to be one of the finest offerings from recent releases, we are excited to feature it as our “Album of the Week.”
