The August edition of the Transglobal World Music Chart brings a wild wave of Latin American psychedelia and boundless musical imagination. Taking the top spot on the global leaderboard is an explosive collaboration between two visionaries—Mexico’s Mexican Institute of Sound and Colombia’s Meridian Brothers. Their joint album “Ruido Tovar” pays homage to tropical traditions, cumbia, and unconventional electronics, dominating this month’s summer charts.
The winning album of the August Transglobal World Music Chart edition is a collaboration between Mexican producer Camilo Lara (Mexican Institute of Sound) and the Colombian avant-garde ensemble Meridian Brothers, led by Eblis Álvarez. Their joint effort Ruido Tovar is a wild, playful, and uncompromising tribute to the legendary Mexican singer Rigo Tovar and the tradition of tropical cumbia. Rather than leaning into classic nostalgia, the artists deliver an explosive cocktail of distorted retro synthesizers, psychedelic guitar riffs, and modern electronic beats. The album fuses sonic experimentation with irresistible danceability, transforming traditional Latin American rhythms into a fresh, visionary language for the 21st century. It is a record filled with wit, energy, and a sound that instantly pulls the listener into an unrestricted world of Latin American electro-tropicalism.
