The March edition of the Transglobal World Music Chart has a new queen. Shining at its summit is the Algerian-French artist Souad Massi with her new album, “Zagate.” In this record, Massi navigates the intersections of folk, rock, and profound poetry, her captivating voice providing a stark contrast to the heavy burdens of today’s world.
The fierce, rock-groove production of “Zagate” was helmed by the legendary Justin Adams, whose guitar work infuses the recording with unprecedented energy. Working alongside guests such as Youssoupha and Gaël Faye, Massi has crafted her most liberated and candid work to date. The new release serves as both an intimate confession and a political manifesto, where every word transforms into an act of artistic resistance.
