This time, the album “Maqam Pilgrims” by Mustafa Said & Asil Ensemble reached the top position in the Transglobal World Music Chart album rankings.
In 2019 in Lisbon it took place the gala and ceremony of the Aga Khan Music Awards. I didn’t know about Mustafa Said and we had almost no information about the performing artists in advance. Mustafa won. This is now history. He performed alone with his oud and his thrilling voice. How to explain it? It was a combination of freshness and surprise at every moment, grounded in his deep knowledge of classical Arabic music. By then, Said had already released four albums and had founded the Asil Ensemble. I never forgot that performance. The competition was fierce, and the artistic level was outstanding. Even so, Said’s victory filled me with joy. It is now an honor for Mapamundi Música, six years later, to collaborate with the Aga Khan Music Program to share Mustafa Said’s new work with you.
